Blog Assignment 1

Map Quiz Score: 90%
Not too shabby, huh? Drawing the map, actually did help greatly in identifying these countries. I was simply a little bit confused as to where Uzbekistan and Kazahkstan were, but I think that if I were to take it again, I would get full points.

Cultural Bias and Perspective
Most Westerners know very little about Asian culture, especially from a religious standpoint. Truthfully, I'm a little embarassed about the meager amount of information I was able to put on the pre-test. I know a few basics, a tiny bit about the history of the region, but there's an incredible amount for me to learn still. I think that this lack of knowledge and understanding Westerners have of Eastern history and culture is a huge problem. It's region in the world with the most history, the deepest traditions, and in many places, it's a very volatile situation. The preconcieved notions that most Americans have about Islam, for example, merely bar us from understanding the source of the conflict and lead us further away from the solution.
